This autumn, from 8th to 10th November 2007, Universitat Jaume I will become the meeting point for representatives of international institutions, professionals, researchers and students with an interest in the field of translation, correction and typography. This conference will bring us closer to a new and attractive world for professionals and researchers.

To make the conference as successful as possible, we have invited heads of institutions such as l’Institut d’Estudis Catalans, editors, typographers, designers, as well as prominent professionals with a wealth of experience, and researchers, teachers and students to throw open a debate for all of us share experiences and ideas, and discover what is happening in the world of this field today.

At the same time, we would like this Conference to provide a context for students and young researchers to come into contact with international and national experts and find out what their colleagues are working on, and for all of us to gain inspiration from their enthusiasm to continue our efforts in this area of work.

The organising committee have structured the conference around the following issues:

• Norm and usage in Spanish and Catalan at present.
• The translator’s and proofreader’s profession.
• Language policy and proofreading (institutional and editorial).
• Design and editing.
